Observation Narrative
Plot location: Scrubby north edge of a small embayed marsh ca. 0.1 miles north of the confluence of Indian Creek and the Northwest River. Plot center marked with a 1" white PVC pipe.
Water depth = 1cm.
Mapped as MH- Mixed alluvial land, but soil core indicates equivalency to Pocaty Peat on North Landing River.
This plot is located in an ecotone where a rather abrupt transition from swamp forest to graminoid marsh occurs. Myrica cerifera is the most abundant and characteristic shrub of this scrubby vegetation, which "captures" species of both the shaded swamp and the open marsh. Most of the small trees present are located on one edge of the plot.
